Formel/Lab is the incubator of ideas that Formel, a company operating in the field of training for public bodies, wanted to create within its own spaces, to offer brilliant young minds the possibility of seeing valid ideas financed in the form of StartUps.
The space of about 60 square meters was born from the total transformation of the warehouse for stationery and old hardware of the company. The idea of investing part of the company resources for a noble purpose was followed by the equally noble idea of redeveloping a space on the edge of the offices, behind the explicit request to design a "smart" space, able to contribute to fueling the brilliance of the ideas of potential young entrepreneurs.
The large warehouse has been transformed into a large open space divided into two areas directly connected by a transparent glass wall. The first, a small wooden box, is intended to host briefings between multiple subjects, in which to discuss individual projects. The second, the largest space, is used to work on individual workstations around a large table or on the desk/wall. This latter wall, entirely covered with slatted fir wood panels, is transformed from a vertical surface into horizontal portions for the work of the individual user, and then returns to assume the original verticality.
The "vegetal" wall, whose background was chosen to be a petrol green tint, hides inside its doors, storage spaces, functional spaces and closets. Through one of its doors you can directly access the other wing of the offices.
The large table in the center, custom designed and planned, is symbolically placed at the center of the space and hosts the workstations of the young talents.
The project aimed to expand the space through the use of pure white, with the use of a white cement resin floor, large filtering curtains and a false ceiling with integrated lighting.
There were few contrasting colours and materials, such as fir wood and the colour green.
Even for the seats, the chromatic minimalism of white was chosen, which is found in the folding stools by Ikea and in the Potrona trottola by Magis. To sit around the central table, a touch of color complementary to the green was desired, with the inclusion of the DAW armchairs by Eames in yellow.
