Coppola Houses

Erice

Architectural design and Construction Management: Arch. Gianni Ingardia

Structural design: Eng. Roberto Mazzeo

The project aimed to renovate an ancient building in the heart of the medieval village of Erice and to create two residences inside it for the summer holidays of two brothers and their respective families.

The strong fraternal bond is interpreted in the project by the numerous interpenetrations between the different parts of the houses that often enter into each other in a harmonious way.

The real estate subdivision has significantly reduced the available surfaces, the optimization of which has required architectural and structural devices capable of making the best use of the space of the two houses.

The underground cistern discovered during the survey phases was reused according to its original function and brought to the view of the inhabitants of the house under a glass floor in the centre of the living area on the ground floor.
